Koh Tao is a small island located in the Gulf of Thailand, at the foot of the Thai Peninsula. Unlike Pukhet and Krabi, it does not undergo the southwest monsoon that strikes the west coast from May to October. It is also very unaffected by the northern monsoon that blows from November to March.
Koh Tao is a small island: only 21 km covered by a dense and steep jungle. Away from the great tourist migrations, Koh Tao attracts mainly amateurs of scuba diving with its crystal clear waters and its famous sites. It is not unusual to see whale sharks and even whales during their migration.
How to get there
The trip to Koh Tao depends on your budget. If you have time, the economical option is to take a bus or overnight train from Bangkok to Chumporn, then take the first morning boat. The best is the catamaran Lomprayah, there is a free shuttle from the station to the pier. Or the Seatran, the prices are similar (about 600 baths the crossing). You can also buy a combined ticket including the bus and the boat. More expensive but faster, the other option is to take one of the many flights Bangkok – Koh Samui with Bangkok Airways or Thai which connect to the same boats traveling in the opposite direction. The one-way flight costs about 4000 baths. It may be necessary to spend the night in Koh Samui according to the time of your flight because the last boat leaves Koh Samui around 1.30 pm.

If you are already certified diver, you can upgrade to competitive prices in Asia or participate in an exploratory dive, try night dive or discover a wreck.
Beginners must complete a health questionnaire and in case of doubt, have a medical certificate with your doctor. Certified divers must have their card.
There are many other activities such as discovering coral reefs with fins, mask and snorkel or free diving without bottles, yoga, Thai boxing, flying trapeze or climbing, etc … Or simply lazing around On a sandy beach. The beaches of Aow Tian Bay, Aow Leuk and Sai Daeng are all within walking distance.
